Beware the botnet. A botnet is a collection of Internet-connected devices, including PCs, servers, mobile, and Internet of Things devices like sensors and home appliances that are infected and controlled by malware. Owners and users of the Internet connected devices are usually unaware that a botnet has infected their devices. The botnet can be used for a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. The collection of devices (as part of a botnet) consumes the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system such as web servers. Protection against botnets has become an international issue.
