Monday Bytes: 123Net, Ziply, Arvig, LightRiver

123Net has plans to build out some new fiber infrastructure in Michigan. They will be adding dual paths to the town of Fenton, northwest of Detroit. It’s a followup to the 130-mile fiber build up to Bay City they are working on with Peninsula Fiber Network. They’ll build the extra bit alongside that project, which will be ready by the end of next year. The path is just 5 miles long, but will copper circuits still in use.

Ziply Fiber made a couple of interesting moves last week. Ziply has agreed to acquire Ptera, a fiber and fixed wireless ISP in eastern Washington and northern Idaho. It’s their 4th deal in the past year, and brings in 4K customers as well as Ptera’s employee base. Meanwhile Ziply is also moving to upgrade copper to fiber in the Oregon markets of Glendale, Banks and Riddle as well as the Washington town of Westport.
