By 2020 estimates are that global IP traffic will reach 2.3 Zettabytes per year, mirrored by a rise in connected devices to more 26 billion, up from 16 billion in 2015. These predictions indicate a broader trend of consumer mobile growth in many markets, coupled with an explosion in demand for multimedia services and connected devices, which puts additional pressure on existing communications networks.
Given the constraints from operation, ongoing maintenance and business approach, and models of the existing core, edge and access networks, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for communications service providers (CSPs) to offer quick and innovative new services.
