In a significant move to enhance Vietnam’s digital transformation, South Korean telecom giant KT Corp has finalized a $95 million deal with Vietnamese state-owned company Viettel Group. This collaboration is designed to advance Vietnam’s national AI strategy by establishing advanced AI data centers and GPU farms, bolstering the country’s cloud and AI ecosystem.
The partnership zeroes in on six key areas of AI transformation, aiming to develop Vietnamese-language AI products. These products will cater to both consumer and enterprise markets and include offerings such as virtual assistants and sophisticated tools aimed at preventing voice phishing and fraud. Furthermore, the agreement encompasses AI consulting, business development, and the creation of a global AI hub located in Hanoi.
Viettel’s progress in AI and connectivity is apparent with its AI-driven data centers in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Moreover, Viettel’s recent acquisition of a 700 MHz spectrum is a strategic effort to support the expansion of 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) services. This spectrum acquisition is critical in facilitating smart city initiatives and intelligent transportation solutions, with a vision to cover 99% of the Vietnamese population with 5G service by 2030.
The current collaboration underscores a strategic alignment between KT Corp and Viettel Group to boost Vietnam’s technological infrastructure, supporting the country’s ambitions in the digital sector. This partnership highlights the ongoing commitment to propel Vietnam into a future of enhanced connectivity and technological advancement.
