GDPR, the General Data Protection Regulation has been in effect for one year since May 25, 2018. GDPR impacts data related to European Union citizens no matter where it is collected, stored, processed, and, accessed independent of where the EU citizen is located. That means U.S. and Canadian data bases can contain EU citizen information are covered by the GDPR.

The European Commission reported that national Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) across the EU received 95,000+ complaints from citizens since May 2018.
