Starting in May 2018, companies that stored, processed, distributed, or sold European Union (EU) citizen data were covered by the General Data Protection regulations (GDPR). Those businesses that did not interact with EU citizens were exempt. If you do business domestically, it is very likely that some of your customers are from California.
