The process of making and integrating minor changes to software projects is known as continuous integration. Smaller changes have a lower impact and are easier to test than larger changes. Continuous deployment/delivery pushes those changes to the production environment in a controlled manner, helping avoid human error due to manual processes. The combination is called DevOps, shorthand for software development operations.

The software development world has employed DevOps methodology for years, but few organizations use it for their networks. The problem is that networks and their configurations are fundamentally different than that of business software.
