High-speed Wi-Fi at ag research center may be blueprint for rural communities

PARLIER, California — Outside the small San Joaquin Valley town of Parlier, 20 miles south of Fresno, California, the University of California’s Kearney Agricultural Research and Education Center looms over farmland. Much more impressive in person than on Google street view, the center looks like a mini university campus — which is how KARE describes itself. Researchers have studied agriculture in this location since 1965, when local farmers pitched in to buy the land and donate it to the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UC ANR).
