VMware takes aim at multicloud and 5G networks with new NFV platform

VMware has upped its game in the telco space with the release of its VMware vCloud NFV-OpenStack Edition 3.0 for 5G and multicloud networks.

The latest version of vCloud NFV-OpenStack Edition, which includes VMware Integrated OpenStack-Carrier Edition 5.0, delivers improved network performance, networking capabilities and intent-based service assurance for software-defined, open standards-based 5G and multicloud networks.

To date, VMware’s NFV platform has been deployed in more than 50 communication service providers globally, but with the imminent arrival of 5G, a new approach to the telco network and cloud was needed for the hyper distribution of virtual network functions, applications and data, said Shekar Ayyar, executive vice president and general manager of Telco NFV Group at VMware, in a press release.
